Court Rejects Plea To Add Ex-Gurgaon DCP, 3 Others As Accused In Sandeep Gadoli Encounter Case
Mumbai: In an interesting turn to the Gurgaon gangster Sandeep Gadoli, who was killed in an encounter in a hotel in Andheri, the sessions court has turned down the plea of the prosecution to add then DCP, Gurgaon, Balbir Singh and three other cops, who were said to be part of the police team, as accused in the case.
The prosecution had moved a plea to add Singh along with police personnel namely Anil Kumar Sagwan, Amit Kumar, and Rajbeer Beniwal, as accused in Gadoli fake encounter case. While the court rejected the prosecution’s plea on Saturday, the prosecution on Tuesday closed its case. The court will now begin recording the statement of the accused as against the evidence presented by the prosecution.
Gadoli was killed in an encounter by the Gurgaon Police in Mumbai's Airport Metro hotel on February 7, 2016. However, the encounter was subsequently termed fake by the Mumbai police. Mumbai police had filed a case against eight accused including Gadoli’s girlfriend Divya Pahuja, her mother and other cops involved in the encounter.
The special public prosecutor Amin Solkar had argued that these officials were also part of the team behind the encounter. It was pointed out that in all 43 witnesses have been examined, who have revealed the role of these accused.
It was also argued that these officers were part of a police team who had come from Gurgaon, Haryana. Amit Kumar and Rajebeer Beniwal were deputed to stay guard outside the hotel, while Anil Kumar Sagwan was on first floor and nonetheless these officers were armed with weapons.
