Mumbai Crime: 26-Year-Old Man Tries To Kill Fiancée After She Refuses to Marry Him

Mumbai: In a shocking incident from Mumbai’s Dharavi area, a 26-year-old man allegedly attempted to kill his fiancée by attacking her with a blade after she refused to marry him. The incident took place on Monday afternoon.

According to police reports, the victim, a 22-year-old woman who works as a salesgirl at a local clothing store near 60 Feet Road in Dharavi, had been in a relationship with the accused, identified as Abdul Shaikh, for over nine years, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The woman informed the police that Shaikh was recently addicted to drugs. On the day of the incident, Shaikh reportedly saw the woman speaking to another man. Enraged, he confronted her at her workplace, where the altercation turned violent.

According to the report, the police officer mentioned that "An argument broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, Shaikh pulled out a blade from his pocket and tried to slit her throat. While she was trying to escape, the blade slashed her cheek."

The passersby gathered to see what was happening when the accused grabbed the victim by the neck and attempted to slit her throat. The police added however, the victim managed to escape from the scene. The suspect, identified as Shaikh, fled the scene.

In a separate crime news from Mumbai, police arrested a 22-year-old karate instructor on Monday night for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl at a gymnasium in Central Mumbai. The accused had been abusing the minor since January and had threatened to harm her mother if she revealed the abuse, according to the police.

The suspect, who is from Mahim, was arrested after the girl’s mother filed a complaint. According to a report by the Indian Express, the assaults occurred multiple times when no other students were present.
