Mumbai Doctor Promises Mother To Come For Dinner, Then Jumps Off Bridge
A city doctor who left work promising his mother he’d be home for dinner has mysteriously disappeared after allegedly jumping off the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, sparking a relentless search by police and Coast Guard teams.
Omkar Kavitke, 32, a doctor at JJ Hospital, left the hospital on July 7 and set off for home in his car. Along the way, he called his mother, assuring her he would be joining the family for dinner.
However, tragedy appeared to unfold around 9.43 p.m. when the police control room received a distressing alert that a man had leapt from the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link — known locally as the Atal Setu — which connects Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
When officers arrived at the bridge, they found an empty vehicle parked along the road and an iPhone inside. Investigators soon confirmed the car and phone belonged to Kavitke.
Desperate Search Yields No Clues
Nearly two days since the incident, police and Coast Guard personnel continue to comb the waters and surrounding areas, but so far there has been no trace of the missing doctor.
Authorities have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could help locate Kavitke. As the search drags on, questions linger: what led a young doctor with a promising career to vanish so suddenly, moments after reassuring his family he’d be home for a simple dinner?
The case remains under investigation.
