Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Patna forced to return back shortly after takeoff due to…, 51 passengers were on board

An IndiGo flight going from Patna to Delhi had to turn back shortly after takeoff on Wednesday morning when one of its engines developed a problem due to a bird hit. The flight, IGO5009, was carrying about 175 passengers. Thankfully, everyone on board is safe, including the crew. According to a statement from Patna Airport, the plane took off at 8:42 AM when it hit a bird. During runway inspection, airport staff found the remains of a bird, confirming the bird strike.

The Approach Control Unit informed the pilot, and soon after, the pilot reported vibration in one engine and asked to return.

“IGO5009 Patna to Delhi reported bird hit after takeoff at 0842 IST, one dead bird in pieces found on runway during inspection. The same was advised to the aircraft through the Approach Control Unit. Message received from the approach control unit that aircraft requested to come back to Patna due to vibration in one engine. Local stand-by declared and aircraft landed safely at 0903 IST on runway 7. All passengers are safe,” a statement issued by Patna airport said.

Emergency teams were kept ready, and the flight landed safely at 9:03 AM on Runway 7. The aircraft will now be inspected for any damage. Meanwhile, IndiGo is arranging another flight or alternate travel  options for the passengers to reach Delhi, officials added.
