Israel kills senior Hezbollah military official in southern Lebanon strike, says he was responsible for…, shares video of attack
The Israeli army says it carried out a major strike in southern Lebanon and killed Hussein Ali Muzhir, a top Hezbollah commander in charge of ordering rocket attacks in the Zahrani area. According to Israel, Muzhir had planned many rocket strikes on Israeli targets and was trying to rebuild Hezbollah’s artillery in the south breaking past agreements between Israel and Lebanon.
“As part of his role, Hussein advanced numerous [rocket] fire attacks toward the State of Israel and IDF troops. Additionally, recently he was involved in attempts to restore the artillery capabilities of the Hezbollah terror group in southern Lebanon,” the military says in a statement.
Hezbollah has not yet responded to Israel’s claim. Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed one person died in Tuesday’s drone strike on Babliyeh matching Israel’s report.
Tensions at the border
Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah flared into a full war last September. A cease‑fire was signed in November, yet Israel has still carried out almost daily strikes in southern Lebanon, saying it targets Hezbollah.
Lebanese officials say Israel has broken the truce about 3,000 times, killing at least 236 people and wounding more than 540.
The November deal said Israel must leave southern Lebanon by January 26, later pushed to February 18 but Israel has so far refused to pull out.
Who Was Hussein Ali Muzhir?
Hussein Ali Muzhir was a senior commander in Hezbollah, the armed group based in Lebanon. He was in charge of firing rockets at Israel from the Zahrani area in southern Lebanon.
According to the Israeli military (IDF), Muzhir helped plan many rocket attacks on Israel and was recently trying to rebuild Hezbollah’s weapons systems, which broke past agreements between Israel and Lebanon.
The IDF confirmed that it killed Muzhir in a targeted strike, and said it will keep acting against anyone who threatens Israel.
