Viktor Gyökeres is reportedly mentally preparing for life in London, as Arsenal have all but sealed a deal to sign him from Sporting. The 28-year-old Swedish striker is said to have decided against joining his former manager Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, opting instead to become a Gunner. The London club's better chance of further decorating his trophy room is believed to be among his key reasons for ditching Amorim.

Sporting values Gyökeres at €80 million (approximately £69 million), while Arsenal's initial bid offered the Portuguese champions around €65 million (£56 million) in money, with another €15 million (£13 million) in add-ons. It is not certain whether this total package of €80 million was enough to satisfy the Lisbon club or whether they have demanded more. However, it is almost confirmed that Sporting will not demand Arsenal to trigger the €100 million (£86.4 million) release clause in his contract, and the transfer will proceed for a lesser amount.

Gyökeres's rumoured wages at Arsenal

Meanwhile, another report claims to have revealed how much Gyökeres will earn as an Arsenal player. Despite all the big-money transfer drama, he will not be the highest-paid Gunner in Mikel Arteta's squad, as his salary will be inferior to what four other stars earn at the Emirates Stadium.

Kai Havertz, who arrived at Arsenal from arch-rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for £65 million, reportedly boasts a weekly salary of £280,000. Gyökeres, meanwhile, is set to earn £200,000 per week at the club, according to a TalkSport report. This is on par with what outgoing midfielder Thomas Partey is earning at the club, but still less than the weekly wages of Gabriel Jesus (£265,000), Declan Rice (£240,000), and captain Martin Odegaard (£240,000). However, his salary is greater than that of the rest of the squad, including Bukayo Saka, who makes £195,000 a week.

Viktor Gyokeres will be signing a five-year-contract with Arsenal, the TalkSport report added, confirming that he has agreed personal terms with the Premier League runner-up. An Arsenal delegation has reportedly reached Lisbon to finalise the deal after choosing Gyökeres ahead of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Arteta's side is also tracking Rodrygo of Real Madrid in an effort to further bolster its attacking department.
