Minor dies due to drug overdose near Ludhiana, two main suspects nabbed
The Ahmedgarh Sadar police have booked around 10 persons, including two women, for culpable homicide after a minor boy of Phallewal village in Malerkotla district allegedly died due to drug overdose.
Residents, led by parents of the deceased, organised a protest on the highway to demand arrest of all suspects without further delay. However, two of the main suspects were arrested on Wednesday.
Jashanpreet Singh of Nathumajra village, Manvir Singh of Nathumajra, Amanpreet Singh of Umarpura, Sukhwinder Kaur Jyoti and her husband Parkash Singh Maddi of Khanpur village, Visla Kaur of Khanpur and Laddi of Malaudh were among the 10 suspects against whom an FIR was registered at the Ahmedgarh Sadar police station on Tuesday under Sections 105, 3(5) of the BNS and 21, 22, 27, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
Akinder Singh of Phallewal village alleged that the suspects had allegedly caused the death of his 17- year-old son Dilpreet Singh by administering him an overdose of some intoxicant, which they had been consuming and distributing illegally.
The body of the victim was found outside his home at the village on Monday and the Sadar police had registered the FIR on Tuesday.
Though the police had initiated a probe into charges levelled by the complainant against the suspects, a group of residents, led by parents of the deceased, held a protest by blocking the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road, demanding arrest of all suspects.
Ahmedgarh SP Rajan Sharma said the police had already tightened the noose around the suspects, who were allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
“We have already arrested Jashanpreet and Amanpreet Singh, who are the main suspects, and others will be nabbed soon,” he said.
