Project Sarathi to help teachers in guiding students on their career choices

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Wednesday launched Project Sarathi, an innovative initiative designed to equip career guidance counsellors from government secondary schools and colleges with essential skills to steer students toward successful academic and professional futures.

The project features a five-day capacity-building workshop, conducted in two phases, aimed at strengthening teachers’ expertise in career counselling, student engagement and the use of modern guidance tools. The workshop will focus on key areas, including career counselling methodologies and student engagement strategies by experts; higher education pathways and vocational training opportunities; mental health and life skills support; digital tools and platforms for effective career guidance.

In addition, the career guidance counsellors will visit leading industrial units in and around Ludhiana, as well as the Multi-Skill Development Centre (MSDC) and Government ITI, Gill Road. These visits aim to provide hands-on insights into industry demands, enabling counsellors to offer students informed career advice aligned with real-world opportunities.

DC Jain emphasised the transformative potential of the initiative, stating that by equipping counsellors with the right tools and knowledge, the district administration is empowering them to guide students toward fulfilling careers. “Many students lack awareness about the right pathways to become agriculturalists, technicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, civil servants, doctors or engineers. Through Project Sarathi, counsellors will gain expertise to bridge this gap and help students achieve their aspirations. This programme is about meeting the demands of the time ahead and preparing counsellors to face the challenges of a rapidly changing world, especially due to interventions like AI,” he said.

Jain urged counsellors to approach the workshop with dedication, noting that their efforts will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of countless young minds in Ludhiana’s government schools and colleges.
