Flood control rooms set up at dist, tehsil level

A high-level meeting was organised in the District Administrative Complex under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain to discuss the possibility of a flood-like situation. The purpose of the meeting was to review pre-preparations in view of the possibility of flood and to make officials concerned from various departments aware of

their responsibilities.

The DC said a control room had been established at the district level to deal with floods, which was working 24 hours a day, seven days a week. She said through this control room, all flood related information could be exchanged and relief provided immediately. The telephone number of the control room is 01882-220412.

She said similar control rooms had been established at tehsil levels. The number for Hoshiarpur was 01882-244175, Garhshankar: 01884-282026, Dasuha: 01883-506268, Tanda: 01886-512952 and Mukerian: 01883-244310.

She asked officials concerned to inform the control rooms in their respective areas if any information regarding a flood-like situation was received. Apart from this, she said, the numbers could be used to report any information by residents. DC Jain directed officials of the Revenue Department to identify flood prone areas. She said the duties of patwaris and kanungos must be decided in advance so that there was no delay in rescue and relief operations in cases of emergency.

Officials of the drainage department were asked to monitor water level in choes and dams in their areas. All SDMs were asked to coordinate with the NDRF and SDRF, besides ensuring the availability of necessary resources and boats etc.

The DC said that along with administrative preparations, public cooperation was also important. Panchayats, municipal bodies and social organisations must work together to make people aware, she added.
