School organises programme to create cooperative awareness among youth
In a move to promote cooperative awareness, a Youth Development Programme for Cooperative Awareness was successfully organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Lambra Langri, on July 5, in celebration of the annual day of the Ministry of Cooperation. The day is observed nationwide to recognise and promote the cooperative movement and its contributions to community development.
The initiative was undertaken in response to a letter from the Regional Institute of Cooperative Management, Chandigarh, proposing the school to organise the programme.
The objective was to play a role in spreading awareness about the relevance of the cooperative movement in today’s society. The programme also involved young minds in understanding how youngsters can play an active role in community development through cooperative values such as self-help, mutual assistance and democratic participation.
As part of the programme, expert speakers were invited to the school to deliver lectures on the history, significance and modern-day relevance of the cooperative movement. The event saw participation from over 250 students.
To gauge the students’ understanding, a written test was conducted after the sessions. From this, 25 students were selected. These students will now be taken on an educational visit to Chandigarh.
Principal Armanpreet Singh expressed his pride and enthusiasm about the programme. “This is probably for the first time that such a youth development programme has been organised in a government school in Punjab. The students were very excited and showed keen interest. We conducted a test to ensure they absorbed what was taught, and the top 25 were honoured,” he stated.
The selected students were felicitated by the Lambra Kangri Multipurpose Cooperative Service Society, which played an integral role in supporting the event. Jaswinder Singh, Project Director of the Society, emphasised the importance of uplifting students from rural areas. “These children come from villages and many of them have never travelled beyond their hometowns. We aim to provide them with exposure not just to Chandigarh but eventually to other significant places as well,” he shared.
The event also featured cultural performances by students, adding vibrancy to the educational atmosphere. Additionally, the society continues to support underprivileged students by assisting with admission fees, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder educational opportunities.
