Kanwar Yatra News: In a major development, the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government and the municipal corporation have decided to shut down meat and fish shops along the Kanwar route during the Sawan month. The holy Yatra will commence on July 11 along with the start of the Sawan month and will continue until July 31. As per the government order, during these days, all the meat shops will remain closed. It is important to note that prior to Delhi, similar decisions to close meat and fish shops along the Kanwar route had already been taken in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Delhi’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Kapil Mishra, on Wednesday, while reviewing the preparations of various camps along the Kanwar route, said that a decision has been made to close meat shops along the Kanwar route in order to show respect for religious sentiments.

Kanwar Yatra: Instructions Issued to Officials

  • During the Kanwar Yatra, officials have been given instructions regarding cleanliness
  • Traffic police officers have been directed on traffic-related arrangements.
  • Apsara Border to Karol Bagh route sees the highest number of Kanwariyas passing through.
  • In addition, Kanwariyas also pass through Dilshad Garden, Seelampur, Kashmere Gate, and Karol Bagh.

Delhi Government to Provide Financial Support to Kanwar Yatris:

The Delhi government is providing financial assistance to the Kanwar committees to support their preparations. Minister Kapil Mishra said that the committees will receive 50 percent of the amount in advance, and the remaining after the Kanwar Yatra concludes. This amount will range from Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh. For the first time, Kanwar committees will also be given up to 1,200 units of free electricity.

It is important to note that nearly 2.5 crore Kanwar yatris from various neighboring states pass through Delhi. This year, grand gates will be installed for the welcome. All necessary facilities like medical aid, water, and electricity will also be provided in every camp for the Kanwariyas.
