Man Arrested For Secretly Filming Women On Bengaluru Streets, Uploading Videos Without Consent

A 26-year-old man has been arrested by Bengaluru Police for allegedly recording and uploading videos of women without their consent in public areas across the city. The arrest came after a woman took to Instagram to publicly raise alarm about the disturbing content shared by a popular social media account.

Bengaluru Women Filmed While Walking On Street

The woman discovered a video of herself on the account and said that despite reporting it and requesting its removal, no action was taken. The video’s circulation led to her receiving vulgar messages from unknown individuals.

The page, which had more than 10,000 followers, claimed to share “street scenes,” but most of its content consisted of clips featuring women on streets in Church Street, Koramangala, and other busy parts of the city—many appearing visibly uncomfortable or unaware they were being filmed, as per a report on NDTV.

Police Action

Following the complaint, Bengaluru’s social media monitoring team flagged the account, prompting Banashankari Police to register a suo-motu case on June 12, reported Times of India. The accused, identified as Gurdeep Singh, a resident of KR Puram, was arrested yesterday from his rented apartment where he lives with his brother. Police revealed he is currently unemployed.

The incident sparked widespread concern about digital safety and the misuse of social media for voyeuristic content. The woman, unable to tag the account directly after reporting it, escalated the matter by tagging the official handles of @blrcitypolice and @cybercrimecid, urging immediate action.

Officials have confirmed that Singh is being investigated under sections related to cyberstalking, voyeurism, and violation of privacy.

Responding to the incident, DCP South, Lokesh Jagalasar, stated “One individual involved in recording voyeuristic videos and photos of women and uploading them on Instagram has been arrested. A suo motu FIR was registered at Banashankari Police Station a few weeks ago.”
