Google's Surprise: Gemini AI Lands On Pixel Watch. Here's What It Can Do
Google has released an unexpected Pixel Feature Drop, bringing new capabilities to Pixel devices, including Gemini AI integration on Wear OS smartwatches. The update marks a small but notable step in bringing AI features to wearable devices.
Gemini Comes to Wear OS
One of the standout features in this surprise rollout is Gemini arriving on the Pixel Watch 2. Users can now interact with Gemini directly on their smartwatch by simply saying “Hey Google” or using the Gemini app. The integration is limited to users who are logged into their Workspace accounts, and is currently only supported in English for users in the US.
The same feature is also available on Samsung's latest Galaxy Watch Series 8 models.
This marks the first time Gemini is being added to a wearable device, hinting at a broader future for on-the-go AI access beyond just phones or desktops. However, it remains to be seen how users will respond to this new addition on such a small screen.
Other Features in the Pixel Drop
Besides Gemini for wearables, the update includes enhancements for the Pixel Tablet, such as the ability to turn it into a Google-powered speaker when docked. The tablet now supports glanceable Google Home favourites and voice control for smart home devices.
The Pixel Fold has also received improvements to translation features in interpreter mode, allowing users to hold one screen to themselves while facing the other screen toward someone else for easier communication.
For Pixel 6 and newer, there are smaller system-wide improvements, including clearer voice call quality and better security alerts. The updates are rolling out gradually over the coming weeks.
While not a major software overhaul, this Pixel Feature Drop adds convenience and signals Google’s continued push to bring AI capabilities to its broader product ecosystem.
