Heavy rain leaves five dead in Gurugram

Three persons, including a graphic designer, and two cows due to electrocution at different places following heavy rains on Wednesday night. In addition to these, an autorickshaw driver died after his vehicle fell into a ditch while a woman lost her life after her car collided with a cement divider. The cab driver and security guard were also injured in the accident.

The graphic designer, identified as Akshat Jain, was working with a private company. On Wednesday night around 9 pm, he was returning to his apartment on his motorcycle from his gym when he came into contact with an electric pole on the road of Ghasola village. Passersby took him to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead. Akshat’s family has accused the electricity department of negligence on which an FIR was registered at sector-50 police station.

On the other hand, Pawan Kumar, a resident of Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, living in Sukhrali village was passing near the Genpact chowk in the rain when he touched a pole and the cart parked there and got an electric shock. In an injured condition, he was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Apart from this, Prashant, a resident of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, living in the New Colony area, had come to visit his relative in Arjun Nagar Colony when he got off his motorcycle and started walking. His foot touched the shutter of a nearby shop. Due to an electric current passing through the shutter, he died on the spot.

A woman and an auto driver were also killed in different accidents during rain. The woman, identified as Vanshika, used to work as a security staff member at the international airport in Delhi. Around 3 am on Thursday while she was returning home in a cab with a security guard and a co-worker, the cab collided with a divider. In this accident, Vanshika, driver and security guard were injured. Following this, they were rushed to hospital, where doctors declared Vanshika dead.

An autorickshaw driver also died after falling into an open sewer during waterlogging due to rain on Wednesday night. The family of the deceased has accused the department concerned of negligence by leaving the sewer open. An FIR was registered at the Sadar police station.

A spokesperson for the Gurugram police said the auto driver was identified as Shailendra (27), a resident of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place near Gate 2 of Sheeshpal Vihar on Wednesday night.
