UP CM Yogi Adityanath Highlights Sanatan Dharma’s Cultural Legacy At Gorakhnath Temple On Guru Purnima
Gorakhpur: Addressing devotees at the Shri Ram Katha and Guru Purnima Mahotsav at Gorakhnath Temple, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath underscored the centrality of Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, and Lord Shiva to Indian identity and cultural continuity. The event concluded on Thursday at the Digvijaynath Smriti Bhavan, drawing large crowds of religious and public figures.
The Chief Minister referenced Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia’s stance on Sanatan Dharma, stating that the noted socialist leader had supported worship of Ram, Krishna, and Shiva as unifying symbols of Indian tradition. He said that while earlier socialists upheld these values, today's political dynamics have seen a shift in ideological adherence.
Yogi cautioned that distancing from these traditions weakens the cultural foundations of India. He invoked the Ramayana to illustrate the consequences of straying from righteousness and emphasized the enduring relevance of epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata in shaping values and societal norms.
He further distinguished between dharma, panth, and mazhab.
On Guru Purnima, the CM emphasized India's tradition of knowledge transmission, citing Maharishi Ved Vyas and the ancient Vedic knowledge systems. He also mentioned the gathering of sages in Naimisharanya 3,500 years ago as a foundational moment in Indian intellectual history.
The event included performances and devotional music. The Chief Minister offered prayers and participated in the final aarti of the Shri Ramcharitmanas Granth. He also acknowledged the contributions of religious leaders, saints, and devotees who organized the spiritual gathering.
Addressing environmental concerns, he cited recent plantation efforts, including the reported plantation of 37 crore saplings across Uttar Pradesh in one day. He noted the importance of afforestation near water bodies and rivers, referring to rivers as the arteries of the Earth.
The CM also referred to past public health crises such as encephalitis in eastern UP, noting that improved sanitation and water access have contributed to the control of the disease in recent years.
The event concluded with a call for collective efforts to preserve and promote cultural, environmental, and spiritual values in everyday life.
