4 arrested after high-speed chase in jungle

The Chandigarh Police today arrested four persons after a high-speed pursuit and a physical confrontation in a forest area near Victoria Enclave, Sector 50. Those arrested have been identified as Amarveer Singh (18) of Sector 35, Tushar Shah (20) of Sector 45, Lakhwinder Singh (22) of Sector 45 and Abhinav Singh (18) of Sector 44.

At around 3.15 pm, Constable Inder Pal, who was on a routine patrol in his private car, spotted a white Swift vehicle (CH01CS 6646) parked in a secluded jungle patch with four of its occupants behaving suspiciously. Recognising the potential threat, Inder Pal returned to the station and brought back reinforcements, including Constable Anil Mor.

On seeing the police, the youths attempted to flee at high speed, heading deeper into the jungle near the Sector 50 Sports Complex. The officers gave a chase to intercept them. During the pursuit, the suspects’ car suddenly emerged from the opposite direction and rammed into the cops’ vehicle in what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to escape. Despite the collision and ensuing scuffle – during which the cops sustained injuries – the police overpowered all four individuals.

An FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including charges of endangering public safety, assault on public servants, and criminal conspiracy. It was also revealed that two of the accused have prior criminal records in Punjab.
