Revenue official arrested for bribery in Ramban

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a revenue official for allegedly taking a bribe to facilitate corrections in land records in Ramban district. Muzamil Salam, posted at Patwar Halqa in Pogal Paristan, was allegedly caught red-handed by an ACB team while taking a bribe of Rs 2,500 from the complainant for correcting his father’s name, which was wrongly entered in the revenue records at the Ukhral office, a spokesperson of the ACB said.

The official had allegedly initially demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant but later agreed to settle for Rs 2,500, he added.

The Tehsildar directed Patwari Muzamil Salam of Patwar Halqa Pogal Paristan to do the needful.

“Since the complainant didn’t want to pay a bribe, he approached the ACB for legal action against the accused public servant. Upon receiving the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand for a bribe by the official,” he said.

A trap was laid, and Muzamil Salam was allegedly caught red-handed in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due legal procedures, the spokesperson said.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
