Bus rams into truck on NH-44, driver killed, 8 injured

A private bus travelling from Gurugram to Chandigarh met with a tragic accident early Thursday morning after it rammed into a truck near Uchani village on National Highway-44. The bus driver, Daya Singh, died on the spot, while eight others, including the conductor, sustained injuries.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the main door of the bus got jammed, forcing police and local residents to rescue injured passengers through the windows. Seven of the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while some passengers continued their journey via alternate transport arranged on the spot.

Preliminary investigation suggests the truck may have been either parked or moving slowly without hazard indicators, contributing to the collision. The truck driver fled the scene following the crash.

A crane was brought in to remove the damaged bus and restore traffic flow on the busy highway.

Sadar police confirmed the driver’s death and stated that an FIR has been registered against the unknown truck driver.

“We are investigating the cause of the accident. The conductor’s statement will be crucial in finalising the report and identifying negligence,” a police official said.
