Cops bust drug syndicate, seize Rs 7-crore heroin

The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has arrested a key member of a national-level narco-syndicate and recovered heroin worth approximately Rs 7 crore, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Gaurav, 24, a resident of Rohini, was arrested on June 28 following a tip-off received by the Crime Branch. During the operation, police recovered 405 grams of heroin along with over 1,000 pouches suspected to contain contraband substances. The narcotics were found in his possession at the time of his arrest.

“Gaurav was caught red-handed while trying to deliver the drugs on a scooter, which was also seized,” an investigating officer said. The arrest is being seen as a crucial link in dismantling a wider supply chain operating in and around the Capital.

During interrogation, Gaurav reportedly disclosed the name of his associate and main supplier, Vanshu, who remains at large. Police teams are conducting raids to trace and apprehend him and uncover further links in the network.

Officials said the syndicate was deeply entrenched in the supply of smack and heroin to drug addicts across Delhi. Gaurav, a school dropout, initially assisted relatives in distributing illegal liquor. In 2023, he came into contact with Vanshu at a marriage function, and soon after, began sourcing and distributing heroin to a small but regular clientele of addicts.
