4.4-magnitude earthquake leaves Jhajjar & Rohtak residents shaken
Residents of Jhajjar and Rohtak districts were left shaken on Thursday morning when a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck the region. Though brief, the tremors prompted many to rush out of their homes and workplaces. The epicentre of the earthquake was in Jhajjar.
Ramesh Kumar, a shopkeeper in Rohtak, said, “Suddenly, the counter and items in my shop began shaking. About two minutes later, I felt another mild tremor. Out of fear, I immediately stepped out of the shop.”
Anju, an elderly woman from Rohtak, said, “I was sitting on the bed when I felt like someone was shaking it. The tremors were quite strong and lasted for several seconds. It was a high-intensity earthquake that created a real sense of fear.”
Amit, a resident of Jhajjar, said, “I was working in my office when the computers and ceiling fans started shaking. It was very frightening. We all rushed outside. Since the epicentre was in Jhajjar, we were anticipating possible aftershocks. I have never experienced such a strong earthquake before.”
Sukhbir, a residents of Girawar village in Jhajjar, said he was attending a meeting when a loud rumbling noise startled everyone.
“Even the windows began rattling. I immediately told my son Sonu to ensure that everyone rushed outside as it was clearly an earthquake. There was a sense of panic across the village.”
Daya Kishan, another resident, said he was sitting outside his house when the tremors began. “I didn’t understand what was happening at first. Later, we found out that it was an earthquake. The earthquake was so intense that walls, doors, gates and the ground were shaking.”
Prem Singh Rathee, a retired teacher, said, “We were having tea when I suddenly felt strong tremors. I told everyone to get out of the house, but, by then, the shaking had stopped. A few minutes later, we felt a light aftershock.” Sukhbir from Bahadurgarh shared a similar account. “I was sitting outside and reading a newspaper when I heard a loud rumble. I immediately got up, and asked my family to step out too.”
