Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a miscreant on the charge of murder bid. The accused has been identified as Jobanpreet Singh of Chanannwindi village under Sultanpur Lodhi police station. Karan of Saidpur village had complained to the police that the accused and his three accomplices attacked him with weapons, intending to murder, and seriously injured him on the evening of April 28. Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a villager on the charge of selling illicit liquor. As many as 35 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused Paras Gogna, a resident of Nurpur Chatha. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the accused. oc

Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested a man on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 55 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Kuldeep Singh of Pati Fojewal, Mausahib village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The Nurmahal police arrested ‘drug peddler’ Arwindar Singh, a resident of Pati Badal Ki, Bundala village, with 27 tablets. oc
‘Dowry seeker’ husband booked
Phagwara: The police have booked the husband of a woman for dowry harassment. The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh of Yakopur Khurd village. Sukhraj Singh of Mehrajwala village told the police that his daughter Harman Preet Kaur’s marriage was solemnised with the accused in November 2022. His daughter migrated to Canada and facilitated her husband’s migration, who started harassing his daughter there and was arrested by the Canadian police. A case has been registered against the accused after an inquiry. oc
booked for jumping parole
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a notorious drug smuggler on the charge of jumping parole.The accused has been identified as Surji Lal alias Sodhi of Chuheki village under Nurmahal. The accused, serving 10-year jail was released on parole for six weeks on March 17, 2022, and was bound to report in jail on May 16, 2022, but he failed. Jail Superintendent urged the SSP to direct the Mehatpur police to register a case against the prisoner. oc

Jalandhar: The Nakodar police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) absconding for the last year. The accused has been identified as Gurmit Singh, alias Saabi, a resident of Kalanour in Gurdaspur. The accused is wanted in a case of attempted murder and firing. oc
