Gurugram police are probing all angles in the fatal shooting of state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav in the city on Thursday. Police are investigating what Radhika's mother, Manju Yadav, was doing when the shooting happened. Manju has refused to record her statement on the incident.

According to Gurugram police, Manju was present in the house when the shooting happened on Thursday. However, when investigators approached Manju to record her statement, she told cops that she was resting in the bedroom as she was down with fever and was unaware of what happened outside.

Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old state-level tennis player, was shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their double-storey home in the upscale Sushant Lok area in Gurugram on Thursday. Deepak has confessed to the crime and allegedly said he shot Radhika following differences over the tennis academy his daughter managed.

Deepak allegedly shot Radhika from behind while she was working in the kitchen at 10.30am on Thursday, police said. Radhika's uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, who rushed the tennis player to the hospital, revealed Radhika, Deepak and Manju were present in the second floor of the house when the shooting happened.

Gurugram police have registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by Kuldeep. Kuldeep told police that though he and his son rushed Radhika to the hospital, doctors declared her dead.

According to Kuldeep,  he suddenly heard a "loud explosion" and rushed to the first floor. "I saw my niece Radhika lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, and the revolver was found in the drawing room. My son, Piyush Yadav, also rushed to the first floor. Both of us picked up Radhika and rushed her in our car to Asia Maringo Hospital in Sector 56, where doctors declared her dead," the uncle said in his statement to the police, PTI reported.

According to police, Deepak fired at least five gunshots, three of which hit Radhika in the back, and killed her on the spot. "I am surprised why she was murdered. My brother (Deepak) has a licensed .32 bore revolver. It was lying there," Kuldeep told police.

According to police, Deepak allegedly shot at Radhika, feeling humiliated by taunts from villagers in his native Wazirabad that he was living on his daughter's income. Deepak wanted Radhika to shut down her tennis academy, which she never agreed to.
