Peak Bengaluru Moment? Home Owner Puts Up 'God Will Punish You' Poster. Here's Why
In a city where finding a parking spot is harder than finding true love, one Bengaluru resident has decided to take the ultimate step: divine intervention. Tired of finding vehicles parked like jigsaw pieces in front of his gate every morning, a resident of a quiet (read: formerly quiet) neighborhood in Koramangala has plastered a bold warning on his gate: “DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE GATE.”
When that didn’t work—and it didn’t—he went nuclear. A second sign appeared overnight, in larger, angrier letters: “GOD’ Will PUNISH those who PARK their CAR in front of this GATE.” The grammar may have suffered, but the intent was crystal clear.
Bengaluru’s Mounting Parking Woes
Once known for its quiet residential lanes, many of Bengaluru’s older neighborhoods are now overwhelmed by traffic and haphazard parking. With more than 1.16 crore registered vehicles in the city as of March 2024—including over 25 lakh cars—the lack of designated parking spaces has become a major urban headache, as per a report on The Hindu. The two-wheelers in Bengaluru make up nearly 75% of vehicles on the road, reported The Deccan Herald.
In some cases, residents have had no choice but to move into apartment complexes just to secure private parking—an increasingly common trend in heritage areas where old houses lack garages or driveways.
Adding to the mess are vehicles from travel agencies, pre-owned car showrooms, and ride-hailing fleets, which often use public roads and footpaths as makeshift lots. This is despite the Parking Policy 2.0, introduced by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) in 2020, which aimed to regulate parking practices across the city.
