UPI New Rules: Limit will be imposed on UPI balance check and payment status, new rules will be applicable from August 1

UPI New Rules From August 1: If you also use UPI (Unified Payments Interface) through apps like PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm to make online payments, then this news is very important for you. From August 1, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is going to implement some new rules, which will change the way of transactions through UPI.

NPCI will implement new API (Application Programming Interface) rules for banks and payment service providers (PSPs). Its purpose is to make the UPI system more fast, secure and reliable, so that problems like server down or outage can be avoided.

These changes may seem technical, but they will affect the everyday digital payments of UPI users.

These important changes are going to be implemented from August 1

1. Limit for checking balance fixed

Now you will be able to check balance only up to 50 times a day from every UPI app. This will reduce the frequent API calls and the system will not slow down.

2. Limit for viewing information of linked accounts

You will now be able to see the information about which bank accounts your mobile number is linked to only 25 times a day.

3. Time slots fixed for autopay payments

Now subscription based auto debit payments like Netflix, SIP will be processed only in non-peak time – that is, before 10 am, between 1 pm to 5 pm and after 9:30 pm.

4. Limit for checking the status of stuck payments

If a payment is stuck, then you will now be able to check its status only 3 times. Also, there will be a gap of at least 90 seconds between each status check.

NPCI gave these important suggestions regarding UPI and online transactions

In view of the increasing cases of digital payment fraud and cheating, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has shared important tips to keep UPI and online transactions safe.

1. Make payments only from trusted apps and websites

Always use official and known apps or websites for any payment. Do not click on any link sent by an unknown person or download any app. Check the publisher of the app on Play Store or App Store and avoid clicking on APK files or any suspicious links sent via SMS, email or social media.

2. Be sure to check the details before payment

UPI users should carefully check the name appearing on the screen before sending money to anyone. Make sure that the payment is being made to the right person or business. By doing this you can save yourself from loss.

3. Do not share UPI PIN or OTP with anyone

Your UPI PIN, OTP or bank details are completely confidential. Do not share them with anyone, even if the other person is introducing himself as a bank, police or any government officer.

4. Keep payment alerts on and read them carefully

Keep SMS and app notifications on so that you get information about every transaction. Read every alert carefully. If anything seems wrong or suspicious, contact your bank or payment app immediately.
