Legal awareness camp on drug abuse held at Sirsa jail

Under the guidance of District & Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Sirsa, Puneesh Jindia, a legal awareness camp was organised on Thursday in Sirsa District Jail. The camp focused on the “Drug awareness and wellness navigation” programme as part of the Drug-Free India campaign.

Chief Judicial Magistrate and DLSA Secretary Pravesh Singla shared that Kanwarjeet Singh and Devendra Kaur from the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System educated inmates about the harmful effects of drug abuse. They explained that drug addiction was not just a personal issue but a major social problem. It harms individuals, destroys families and weakens the economy. Often, the illegal money from drug trafficking is used to fund terrorism and other criminal activities.

Singla stressed that drug use, especially among the children and youth, had reached alarming levels. Therefore, eliminating drug abuse and trafficking was the priority for the government and society. He also encouraged people to contact the DLSA helpline at 01666-247002 or NALSA helpline 15100 for support.
