Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: Success achieved in 21 km long BKC-Shilphata tunnel
An important success has been achieved in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The first breakthrough has been made in the tunnel being built between Bandra-Kurla Complex and Shilphata. This tunnel is 21 kilometers long, of which 2.7 kilometers have been completed. Complete attention is being paid to safety in this project.
Mumbai: A major breakthrough has been achieved in the construction of the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project of the central government. The first breakthrough has been achieved in the tunnel being built between Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Shilphata for this project. This tunnel is 21 km long. Under this, the construction of a 2.7 km long continuous tunnel was completed. It is said that on July 9, the first breakthrough was achieved in the 21 km long tunnel being built between Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Shilphata in Maharashtra. This breakthrough marks the successful construction of a 2.7 km long continuous tunnel section.
Out of the total under this project, five kilometers are being constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) between Shilphata and Ghansoli. Along with this, the remaining 16 kilometers will be constructed using tunnel boring machines (TBMs). The tunnel also includes a seven-kilometer long undersea section under Thane Creek. To expedite tunnel construction in the NATM section, an Additional Driven Intermediate Tunnel (ADIT) was constructed, allowing simultaneous excavation towards Ghansoli and Shilphata.
1.62 km has been excavated
So far, about 1.62 km has been excavated from Shilphata side. Apart from this, the total progress in the NATM section is about 4.3 km. Extensive safety measures have been implemented at the project site, so that there is no problem of any kind. These safety measures include ground settlement markers, piezometers, inclinometers, strain gauges and biometric access control systems. It is said that this is ensuring safe and controlled tunnel construction activities without damaging the surrounding structures.
Construction work of 2.7 km out of 21 km completed
NHSRCL Managing Director Vivek Kumar Gupta said that we have completed the construction work of 2.7 km out of 21 km. After this, the work of tunnel lining will start, then the RC track bed will be laid and the work of track installation will be started immediately. Our effort will be that immediately after the monsoon, the work of the bullet train project in the Maharashtra section should proceed at a faster pace and be completed as per the scheduled time frame.
