A student from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta has alleged that she was raped by a college mate inside the boys' hostel. The accused, a second-year student, has been taken into custody after the woman filed an FIR at Haridevpur Police Station, reported PTI.

According to the victim’s statement, the accused had allegedly called the student to the boy's hostel on Friday on the pretense of providing her with counselling or advise since she was going through difficulties, according to APB news. After the student reached the hostel, she was given pizza and water, after which she fell unconscious. The accused had also not allowed her to enter her name into the register book for visitors.

The woman has alleged that she was beaten and raped while she was drugged. According to the statement, she had realised that she had been raped after she woke up inside the boy’s hostel. She then proceeded to go to the Thakurpur Police station, from where she was sent to Haridevpur station. The police had spoken to the IIM authorities and then searched to collect information and evidence from the college campus.

The initial investigations show that the accused first met the victim on social media. She had tried to seek advice due to tensions she had with another acquaintance. She had been accompanied by a friend, but the accused wanted to have a private conversation.

A police officer who spoke to Telegraph India said, “We are trying to find out if the accused had brought other women to the hostel. More people could be involved.”

The incident happened less than a month after the gang rape of a law student at the South Calcutta campus. Four individuals, Monojit Mishra, Promit Mukherjee, Zaid Ahmed, and the college’s security guard, were arrested in connection with the case.
