Manvi defeats top seed Anjali in tennis ranking tournament

Manvi Rathi stunned top seed Anjali Dalal 6-4 1-6 11-9 in the women’s qualifying second round during the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Championship Tennis Tournament here today.

Rubani Kaur defeated Pratishtha Saini 6-2 6-4, while Rhea Arora stunned second seed Gamya Gupta 6-0 6-1 and Vaishnavi Singh ousted Sia Sandeep 6-0 6-2. Third seed Saysha Taneja defeated Riddhi Khanna 6-3 7-5, whereas Harni Parthiban blanked Eesha Gupta 6-0 6-0 and Anu Moar beat Sanjana Sangram 6-14-6 10-2.

Ranjhana Sangram recorded a 6-3 6-4 win over Priya 6-3 6-4, Shrawasti Kundilya defeated Mannat Awasthi 6-1 6-0 and Anandita Sharma defeated Arshiya Khanna 6-3 6-1. Suryanshi Shekhawat posted 6-2 6-0 win over Ira Chaddha, while Priyanka Deepak Rodriks defeated Bhumika Rohilla 6-3 6-4. Sherry Sharma stunned Kanika Rapria 6-0 6-2 and Reet Arora ousted Avni Sahraya 6-2 6-4. Priyanshi Katial defeated Aditi Singh 6-2 6-0.

Mehak wins judo bronze at international meet

Mehak Singh brought laurels for Chandigarh by winning a bronze medal in the Senior Asian Judo Open 2025 at Taipei, Taiwan.

The 19-year-old student of MCM DAV College, Sector 36,claimed the third position in the -52kg category. This is Mehak’s second international tournament, after finishing seventh at the 2024 Asian Judo Open in Kazakhstan. The winner of All India University Championship, she also won bronze medal in 38th National Games in Uttarakhand followed by medals in the Senior National Judo Championship in New Delhi

and Junior National Judo Championship in Dehradun. She trains at the Sector 34 Sports Complex under coach

Panchkula dist badminton meet from July 18

The District Badminton Association here will organise the 19th Ashwani Gupta Memorial District Championship from July 18 to 20.

This was announced by the association during its annual general body meeting chaired by Mahesh Garg, senior vice-president, in the presence of Gian Chand Gupta, chief patron.

Jatinder Kumar Mahajan, general secretary of the association, informed the House that the championship would be held at the badminton hall of Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3. There will be organised in different age groups including Under-11, Under-13, U-15, Under-17, Under-19, men and women along with masters +35 years, +40 years, +45 years, +50 years, +55 years, +60 years, +65 years and +70 years. The players residing in Panchkula revenue district will be eligible to participate in the championship.

The House also decided to organise an inter-school tournament in November.
