BJP holds protest at Kishtwar

JAMMU, July 12: To protest against the Government’s failure to provide civic amenities to the people and solve the pressing problems of water scarcity and erratic power supply, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a demonstration at Kishtwar today.
Led by Leader of Opposition in J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma the protestors with banners in their hands took the UT Government led by Omar Abdullah to task for its failure in solving the basic problems of people of Kishtwar and warned to intensify agitation in support of the demands of the people.
Besides, Sharma the MLA Kishtwar, Shagun Parihar, senior party leader Tariq Keen and district president Kishtwar BJP Ravi Thakur addressed the protestors.
Talking to Excelsior, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Sunil Sharma later said that they held the protest in support of various public demands. He accused the NC Government led by Omar Abdullah of its total failure in fulfilling the poll promises and alleged the problems of people in Kishtwar district have compounded after this Government assumed office.
Sharma said that people are facing acute shortage of drinking water as well as erratic power supply. Moreover there is total insanitation as heaps of garbage are lying everywhere in the town due to the strike of Safai Karamcharis.
He said it is the total failure of Government which failed to hold negotiations with agitating Safai Karamcharis and find a solution to their genuine demands due to which the people are put to hardships and insanitation prevails in the town.
On the NC’s demand of restoring 13 July holiday, Sharma said that he had opposed it on the floor of the Assembly last time as this day can’t be described as a Martyrs’ Day.
“On this day there was a rebellion against the then Maharaja of J&K who was a benevolent ruler and minority community of Kashmir i.e Kashmiri Pandits,. They were attacked and many members of the community were killed. So how can this day be treated as a Martyrs’ Day”, he added.
Sharma warned that BJP will intensify its agitation and party MLAs will gherao the Civil Secretariat on July 14 against the failure of Government in solving the problems of the people. This will be followed by another gherao by party activists, senior leaders and MLAs on July 17, he added.
