Bullet Train Update: Japanese bullet train will not run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, Govt issues BIG update, says…
Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train: India’s first highly ambitious Ahmedabad-Mumbai High-Speed Corridor (Bullet Train Project) will now feature the semi high-speed Vande Bharat train, developed using indigenous technology instead of the Japanese bullet train. Indian Railways’ first Vande Bharat train to run at a speed of 250 km/h. Earlier, it was claimed that a bullet train would run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad at a speed of 320 km/h.
Work on the Surat-Bilimora (50 km) section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Corridor is in its final stage, according to a senior official from the Ministry of Railways stated. It is important to note that the trial run of the Vande Bharat train will begin by the end of the year.
By 2027, the general public will be able to travel in the Vande Bharat (sitting) train. Two Vande Bharat trains with eight coaches each will operate on this route. Although the maximum speed is 280 km/h, the trains will run at 250 km/h.
Why This Change:
To recall, at the time when both the countries were signing the agreement for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai High-Speed Corridor project, Japan had set the cost of the bullet train at Rs 16 crore per coach. However, last year, Japan increased this cost by more than three times. At the time of supply, Japan raised the cost of a bullet train coach to Rs 50 crore. As a result, a 16-coach bullet train would now cost Rs 800 crore.
