2 Killed, 2 Critical After Car Falls From British-Era Bridge On Indore-Betul Highway

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An accident was reported at Indore-Betul National Highway which led to the death of two individuals on Sunday.

The accident took place at Mokha Peepliya area, considered a danger zone on the Indore-Betul NH. A car coming from Khategaon side lost control and fell into the Kalisindh River from a narrow British-era bridge. A truck was approaching from the opposite direction.

As the car gates were locked, passengers could not get out in time. Villagers nearby immediately jumped into the river to help. Police also arrived soon after. The rescuers broke the car windows and pulled out 4 people.

2 dead, 2 critical

All were taken to Bagli government hospital, where 2 were declared dead, and two others were referred to Indore in serious condition.

According to the police, the car had 4 passengers: Chandi Garh from Uchha Tevan, Anand Raj from Indore, OP from Amritsar, and Ilaiyaraja from Jaipur.

OP and Anand lost their lives in the accident. SDOP Bagli, Srishti Bhargav, confirmed that the car lost control and fell into the river on its own - there was no collision with the truck.

According to locals, the river was around 8–10 feet deep where the car fell

Villagers said the bridge over the Kalisindh River was built during British times and is too narrow for modern traffic.

Accidents are common here, especially during the rainy season. If a vehicle breaks down on the bridge, it often causes traffic jams stretching for several kilometers.

Locals have been demanding a new bridge for years.
