Cadets debate religion, politics at RMS-Chail

Rashtriya Military School (RMS), Chail, marked its centenary year by hosting the Captain GS Salaria, PVC (Posthumous) Memorial Inter-School English Debate Competition. The event was dedicated to the legendary alumnus Captain GS Salaria, a Param Vir Chakra awardee, whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire generations.

This year’s debate centred around the timely and thought-provoking motion: “Inclusion of religion in politics is hampering the growth of our nation.”

A tribute presentation on Captain Salaria’s gallantry and a visual journey through RMS Chail’s 100 years of discipline, academic excellence, and national service added emotional depth to the occasion.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation from all five RMS sister schools—Ajmer, Belagavi, Bengaluru, Dholpur and Chail—as well as from Army Public School, Dagshai; St. Luke’s School, Solan; Pinegrove Schools (Dharampur and Subathu); Gurukul International School; and Delhi World Public School, Kandaghat.

Deepanshu and Kanishak from RMS-Chail were adjudged Best Speakers for their speeches supporting and opposing the motion, respectively. Special recognition was also given to Daksh Sharma (RMS Belagavi), Lakshya Pratap (RMS Ajmer), and Ishita Sharma (St. Luke’s School, Solan).

Chief guest Ajay Chagti, Secretary of Medical Education, Research and Health, and an alumnus of RMS Chail, emphasised the importance of keeping governance rooted in constitutional values rather than religious bias.
