Police Commissioner inspects Kanwar Yatra route in Sonepat
Mamta Singh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and Commissioner of Police (CP), late Saturday night reviewed security arrangements for a peaceful conduct of Kanwar Yatra in the district. Meanwhile, the traffic police on Sunday organised a special anti-encroachment drive on the main roads in Sonepat.
CP Mamta Singh inspected the yatra route and checked all points and PCRs from NH-334B to Kharkhoda.
The district police and administration are geared up for the smooth conduct of the Kanwar Yatra in Sonepat.
Thousands of ‘kanwariyas’ used to go to Haridwar to collect water from Ganges to offer it at Shiva temples in their villages or in their areas on the occasion of Maha Shivratri in Shrawan month.
ADGP Mamta Singh examined all checkpoints in Sonepat district and also checked PCRs and ERVs from NH 334B to Kharkhoda, besides inspecting security arrangements on the road leading to Delhi.
DCP (Traffic) Narendra Kadyan and ACP (Headquarters) Ajit Singh were also present on the occasion.
The police administration has designated three main routes for the ‘kanwariyas’ — NH 71-A from Panipat to Gohana and Rohtak, NH 334-B from Baraut to Sonepat to Jhajjar, and Sonepat-Gohana road. Heavy vehicle entry has been restricted at certain points on these routes to ensure the safety of the ‘kanwariyas’ during their journey.
To facilitate smooth traffic flow, a special diversion plan has been implemented.
The Uttar Pradesh police have also restricted heavy vehicles coming from Bahalgarh towards Baghpat from July 18. From July 18 to 23, only ‘kanwariyas’ coming from Uttar Pradesh will be allowed to enter Sonepat.
For security reasons, the Sonepat police have kept the cyber cell and all their intelligence units on a high alert. Drones will monitor the route and CCTV cameras will be deployed at various points. The police are also continuously monitoring social media.
