Softball Asia Cup: Himachal’s daughters aim for global glory
In a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh, two young athletes from the state have been selected to represent Team India at the Under-23 Women’s Softball Asia Cup to be held in China from July 14 to 20. The Indian team departed for China today.
Among the selected players is 23-year-old Kavita Thakur from Kotkhai in Shimla district. A seasoned athlete, Kavita has been playing softball for the past eight years and has previously captained the national team. She is currently pursuing her studies at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar.
Joining her is 19-year-old Krishika from Nauradhar in Sirmaur district. With five years of experience in the sport, Krishika completed her schooling in Rajgarh and is now a student at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar.
The Softball Association of Himachal Pradesh has congratulated the duo and extended best wishes for their performance. Association Secretary Santosh Chauhan expressed confidence in their abilities, stating that both players are part of the playing squad and possess the talent to shine at the international level. He voiced hope that India will win the Asia Cup and secure a berth in the 2026 Women’s Softball World Cup.
The Asia Cup also serves as a qualifier for the upcoming World Cup, making this tournament a critical stepping stone for international glory.
