India’s Cleanest City: Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, which is known for its rich culture, Nawabi Tehzeeb, and delicious food, has made headlines all over by achieving a historic milestone in the field of cleanliness. It has become the third cleanest city in India. According to the Swachh Survekshan 2024 report, Lucknow city, which was earlier in the 44th place, has jumped to the third position. The credit for the achievement goes not only to the Municipal Corporation but also to the people of the city. As per the Swachhta Survey, Ahmedabad has emerged as the number 1 cleanest city in the country. In 2024, the city was in the fifth position. Madhya Pradesh’s capital city, Bhopal, secured the second position in the cleanest city ranking. But the most surprising improvement was Lucknow, which jumped from the 41st place to third in just one year.

How Did Lucknow Jump From 41st Place To 3rd In Just One Year?

Notably, several changes were made under the leadership of Lucknow Municipal Corporation and Municipal Commissioner to make the city cleaner and greener. Changes such as Waste management, waste sorting from homes into different categories, regular ward cleaning, digital monitoring system, a public awareness campaign and the deployment of modern resources at several places completely changed the image of the city in just one year. As a result of a massive awareness drive, people’s habits towards cleanliness has changed.

The President To Honour Lucknow Municipal Corporation On July 17

Notably, Lucknow Municipal Corporation will be honoured by President Draupadi Murmu on July 17 at Rashtrapati Bhavan during a special ceremony. At the event, top clean cities will  be praised and recognised at the national level.

People’s participation in Lucknow’s cleanliness initiative, including household waste sorting and responsible waste disposal, has transformed the program from a government-led effort into a city-wide movement.

Next Goal Is To Become Number 1

Lucknow’s Municipal officials have initiated several new programs aimed at improving cleanliness and achieving the third ranking. Now the goal is to make Lucknow the cleanest city in the country. To make Lucknow the cleanest city in India, the work has already begun. New schemes will be implemented, which include recycling, waste-to-energy, green area expansion, and school-level cleaning programs.
