Ganjam: Woman Burned by In-Laws Over Dowry Demand; Suffers Severe Injuries

Berhampur: In a horrific incident of domestic violence, a young woman was allegedly set on fire by her mother-in-law and brother-in-law over dowry demands in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The tragic incident took place in Kahneipura village, under Khallikote police limits on Monday morning.
The victim identified as Arati Parida, sustained 40% burn injuries. She was initially rushed to Khallikote Hospital in critical condition before being referred to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment.
As per reports, Arati, married to Akash Parida for two years, had reportedly faced repeated harassment from her in-laws over dowry issues. A heated argument erupted between Arati and her mother-in-law on Sunday night.
The situation escalated tragically the next morning when her mother-in-law and brother-in-law, identified as Prakash, allegedly doused her with petrol and set her ablaze.
Khallikote police have launched an investigation into the incident.
