Tesla Officially Enters India Tomorrow: What To Expect

It took many years but Tesla is finally setting foot into India tomorrow with the launch of its first showroom in Mumbai. For the Indian market and particularly, the EV segment this is a big boost that the EV maker has identified as its next growth market. Tesla has been planning an India entry for many years and way back in 2016, some customers actually made a reservation on the Model 3 which the carmaker returned.

Finally setting up shop in India, Tesla will open its physical experience centres across many cities with Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore being the first ones. Tomorrow, it remains to be seen if Elon Musk himself will come for the launch but we can expect to hear about the plans including the first set of cars which have arrived. Tesla isn't interested yet in making cars in India and will instead import them in the first phase.

The first product would be the Model Y which is its popular SUV and its best selling car too while we can expect the Model 3 as well. While import duties means that pricing could be steep, the Tesla brand has a large fan following and its appeal will mean that many luxury car buyers could potentially switch to Tesla owing to the technology and performance. Expect pricing to be around Rs 60-70 lakh for the Model Y while India would get the top-end trims most probably. Stay tuned for more as tomorrow the Tesla chapter begins.
