7, including 4 JEs, found absent from duty at Sirsa MC office
In a move against repeated complaints of staff absenteeism and negligence at the Sirsa Municipal Council, Chairman Veer Shanti Swaroop conducted a surprise inspection of the council office on Monday. The visit, which began at 9:45 am, revealed that seven employees, including four Junior Engineers (JEs), were absent from duty without prior notice or leave application.
The absent employees included JEs Praveen Kumar, Rohit Hooda, Rahul Kumar, and Sheetal, along with Stenographer Davinder Singh, Data Entry Operator Ashok Kumar, and Sandeep Kumar from the Birth & Death Certificate Branch. None of them had informed the office or recorded any official leave in the attendance register.
Visibly upset by the negligence, Swaroop ordered Executive Officer (EO) Sunil Ranga to issue show-cause notices to all absent staff. The Chairman, who recently returned to duty after undergoing knee surgery, emphasised that such indiscipline would not be tolerated at a public office meant to serve the citizens. This is not the first time absenteeism has been reported. Earlier inspections also revealed similar patterns of the staff indiscipline. Despite previous warnings, the issue continues, prompting stricter action this time.
The Chairman said, “The municipal council is here to serve the people, and indifference to duty affects public trust. Such behaviour will face consequences.” He added that random inspections will continue in future to ensure staff accountability and smooth functioning of the office, without causing inconvenience to the public.
