Cong MLA questions BJP’s claims on bypass project in Kurukshetra

Thanesar Congress MLA Ashok Arora on Monday raised questions over the BJP government’s claims regarding the construction of a bypass in Kurukshetra, and claimed that the project found no mention in the recently discussed Master Plan-2041 for Kurukshetra.

Speaking to mediapersons, the Congress MLA said, “The BJP has been misguiding the public regarding the bypass project. The BJP leaders have been claiming that a detailed project report (DPR) of the bypass project is ready, while there is no mention of the bypass in the Master Plan of 2041. At a meeting of the district-level committee of the Planning Committee on July 9, when the discussion of the bypass came up, the officials said letters were sent to the National Highways Authority of India about the bypass, but no reply was received.”

“Similarly, in the master plan presented, the proposed ring road of Kurukshetra has been shown at a place where already many legal and illegal colonies have been established. It is not possible to build a ring road at this place even today, and in 2041, the urban population of Kurukshetra is expected to increase to over 10 lakh”, Arora said, and further added that the population was on the rise, and a heavy traffic jam was witnessed in the city during the International Gita Mahotsav and other festivals. There was a need to construct a ring road around the city at the earliest, but there was a need to make changes in the locations where the ring road was proposed.

He mentioned that he had proposed in the meeting that the ring road be built approximately 7-8 kilometres away from the city. The officials agreed to his suggestion and assured him that the draft would be revised.

Congress MLA Ashok Arora said it appeared that the master plan was prepared keeping the interests of some leaders of the ruling party in mind and not the public.

He also raised questions over the law and order situation and the shortage of fertiliser in the state. He said the government was busy organising back-to-back events and was not paying any attention to the plight of the farmers.
