Youth Offered ‘Drugged’ Frooti By Two Co-Passengers Onboard Mahanagari Express, Robbed Of ₹12K Cash

Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): A 22-year-old passenger was robbed of ₹12,000 in cash and his mobile phone after being drugged by a co-passenger who offered him Frooti on the Mahanagari Express on Tuesday.

The victim fell asleep soon after drinking it, allowing the accused to flee with his belongings.

According to information, the incident took place late at night on July 15, while the train was traveling from Mumbai to Varanasi.

This drugging and robbery case has come to light on the down 22177 Mahanagari Express train, which runs from CST Mumbai to Varanasi.

A criminal boarded the train at Mumbai, pretending to be a passenger going to Banaras. He quickly made friendly conversation with fellow passengers and later offered them Frooti (a mango drink).

Four passengers accepted the drink, after which they felt sleepy and lost consciousness. Taking advantage of the situation, the thief stole cash-filled bags, mobile phones, and other belongings before escaping.

When the passengers woke up, they found their valuables missing.

The victims informed the railway police, and they were taken off the train at Khandwa station in an unconscious state. They were later admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

The incident took place around 12:00 to 1:30 AM. One of the victims, 22-year-old Anil from Arohra Judai, Uttar Pradesh, said he was traveling with his friend Ajay from Amav village.

They had gone to Mumbai for a visit on July 10 and were returning home on the night of July 15.

Anil said, “The man started talking to us and said he was also going to Banaras. He sat with us and took out a half-liter Frooti bottle. He offered it to us, saying, ‘Will you have a little?’ Since he had been with us for a while, we didn’t suspect anything and drank it. Soon after, we felt drowsy and fell asleep. When we woke up, a bag containing around ₹12,000 and my mobile phone were missing.”

Another victim, Anand Kumar from Kawad, Uttar Pradesh, said he works in Mumbai and was going home to join the Bol-Bam Kanwar Yatra. He too drank a sip of the Frooti offered by the stranger and lost consciousness. When he woke up, his mobile phone and a bag with ₹4,000 were gone.

A third victim, 54-year-old Kanhaiya from Maninagar, Uttar Pradesh, is also admitted to the hospital but is currently unable to speak.

The railway police are investigating the matter.
