AI startup Windsurf sold to AI engineer Devin’s maker Cognition just days after OpenAI acquisition fails and Google ‘poaches’ CEO

Windsurf faces acquisition by Cognition AI. This follows a collapsed deal with OpenAI. Google hired Windsurf's CEO Varun Mohan and co-founder Douglas Chen. Google DeepMind also secured a license to Windsurf's tech for $2.4 billion. Cognition's acquisition includes Windsurf's IP and remaining staff. All Windsurf employees will receive accelerated vesting. Cognition develops the Devin AI coding assistant.
