Mumbai: In a landmark moment for India's electric mobility journey, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Tesla's first-ever Experience Centre in the country today at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. The event marks more than just the launch of a showroom it signals Tesla’s formal entry into the Indian market, choosing Mumbai, Maharashtra, as its gateway.
Speaking at the inauguration, CM Fadnavis stated, "This isn’t just the opening of an Experience Centre, it’s a powerful message. Tesla has arrived, and it has chosen the right city and the right state: Mumbai, Maharashtra."
Mumbai, often hailed as India’s financial, commercial, and entertainment capital, also stands as a beacon of innovation and sustainability. Tesla’s vision aligns perfectly with the city’s dynamic spirit. Recalling his first Tesla ride in the U.S. back in 2015, CM Fadnavis added, "I knew then that India needed this technology. It took time, but we are glad to see it finally here."
At the event, Isabel Fan, Senior Regional Director at Tesla, shared the company’s vision for India. She highlighted Tesla’s commitment to sustainable technologies and electric mobility, emphasising the brand's dedication to innovation and clean energy.
The CM also praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose emphasis on sustainability, e-mobility, and the Make in India initiative has laid the groundwork for Tesla’s entry into India.
He noted that Maharashtra has become a leading EV hub, backed by progressive policies, a growing charging infrastructure, and comprehensive support for electric mobility.
"We are confident that India, and especially Maharashtra, will be among Tesla’s strongest markets," he said. As Tesla begins its Indian journey from Mumbai, Maharashtra stands ready to be its most trusted partner and long-term home in the country.
In a post shared by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, he wished Tesla success on this new path. He added that Minister Pratap Sarnaik and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
