Chhattisgarh: Naxals Murder 2 Govt Teachers In Bijapur Forests Over Suspicion Of Being Police Informants

Two men working as temporary teachers in government schools were found murdered in the forested terrain of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. Police have attributed the killings to Naxalites, marking a grim continuation of targeted violence in the Maoist-affected Bastar region.

According to news agency IANS, both victims were engaged in educational outreach in the area, with one of them identified as a ‘Shiksha Doot’—a term locally used for educators assigned to remote and insurgency-prone zones.

IANS reported that one of the deceased has been identified as Vinod Made, a local education worker who was allegedly abducted by Maoists on Monday evening. His body, along with that of another unidentified individual, was discovered near the Farasgarh police station jurisdiction, in the vicinity of Pilur village.

The discovery has led to heightened mobilisation by police forces, who have initiated search operations in the region. As per eyewitness accounts and local media reports cited by IANS, pamphlets were found near the crime scene, alleging that the victims were acting as informants for security forces. However, officials have yet to issue a formal confirmation regarding the motive.

The incident has reignited fear among residents of the conflict-ridden district. Locals allege that the killings were carried out based on suspicions of police collaboration. Such suspicions have been at the heart of multiple executions carried out by Maoists in the recent past.

In the last fortnight alone, at least six people, including two students, have been killed by Maoists in similar circumstances across Bijapur district.

Bastar Sees Renewed Violence Amid Government Crackdown

The Bastar region, which includes Bijapur and six other districts, has remained a hub of Maoist activity since Chhattisgarh became a separate state in 2000. As per official figures, over 1,800 people have lost their lives to Maoist violence in the region, with Bijapur accounting for the highest number of casualties.

On June 17, three villagers—among them a 13-year-old schoolboy and a 20-year-old college student—were allegedly strangled to death by Maoists in Peddakorma village, also in Bijapur district. The victims were identified as Anil Madvi, a Class 7 student, and Soma Modiyam, who had recently enrolled in college after clearing Class 12.

Amid the continuing unrest, security forces have launched intensified operations across the region. The Chhattisgarh government has reaffirmed its determination to eliminate Naxalism from the state, aligning with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s goal of eradicating the insurgency by March 2026.
