Rethinking Indian Literature: Dispersion, Diaspora & Expanding Boundaries Beyond Traditional Literary Canon
Professors Anjali Nerlekar and Ulka Anjaria discussed their editorial journey with host Jaya Bhattacharji Rose on TOI Bookmark in the context of their recent editorial work, The Oxford Handbook of Modern Indian Literatures (2024). The editors talk about how their collaboration came about and what drove them to explore the works that feature in the text. The handbook features literatures from areas such as Tamil Modernism, as well as discussions of Tamil literary production in Sri Lanka and Singapore, pushing the boundaries of what constitutes ‘Indian’ and what is considered ‘modern’.
