Three suspected ‘drug overdose’ deaths in Muktsar in 5 days

Three persons have allegedly died due to drug overdose in the past five days in Muktsar district. The FIRs have been registered in two cases and investigations are underway.

In a recent case, an 18-year-old boy, who worked as a daily-wager, died due to suspected drug overdose at Chak Duhewala village on Sunday. His mother alleged a village resident had taken her son to the fields for work, but he was found unconscious in the old veterinary hospital building. “My son was declared dead by doctors at the Muktsar Civil Hospital. He seemed to have been given some intoxicant or poisonous substance,” stated the deceased’s mother in her complaint to the Muktsar (Sadar) police.

Earlier, Lakhvir Singh (45) allegedly died due to “chitta” overdose at Badhai village on Friday. His body was found in the fields. On a complaint by deceased’s father Shingara Singh, a case was registered at the Muktsar (Sadar) police station against a person for allegedly supplying contraband to Lakhvir.

Muktsar (Sadar) police station SHO Inspector Varun Yadav said, “Two youngsters have died under mysterious circumstances in the past about a week. Acting on statements by their families, cases have been registered and investigations are underway. The latest incident appears to be a case of consuming some poisonous substance.”
