Bhayandar News: East Indian Community Charts Roadmap To Preserve Culture, Language And Heritage At Uttan Meet
The East Indian community organised a meeting in Uttan on July 13 to discuss efforts to preserve their culture, language, and architectural heritage.
The meeting, organised by the Mobai Gaothan Panchayat, was held as part of its 15th anniversary celebrations.
Team members shared views on MGP projects and areas for improvement. Topics discussed at the meeting included financial targets, grassroots connect, formation of a core team, and connecting the community spread across more than 100 village and the East Indian diaspora.
The community, descendants of Roman Catholic converts from local castes, are trying to preserve their East Indian Marathi dialect and other cultural traditions. Projects include a dictionary of East Indian Marathi, festival revival, and preservation of the Indo-Portuguese architecture in their villages.
