Child’s Aadhaar card will be closed if not updated, UIDAI made a big change in the rules
According to the statement, “Timely completion of MBU is a necessary condition to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the biometric data of children. If the MBU is not completed even after the age of 7 years, the Aadhaar number may be deactivated as per the existing rules.”
UIDAI has made major changes in the rules regarding Aadhar card for children. It has been made mandatory for children who have got Aadhar card at the age of less than 5 years to update their biometrics after crossing the age of 7 years. If this is not done, the 12-digit unique identification number of the child’s Aadhar card can be deactivated. This information has been given in an official statement. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started sending text messages to the mobile number registered in the Aadhar of children to complete the process of ‘mandatory update of biometric’ (MBU).
Completion of MBU on time is a necessary condition
According to the statement, “Completion of MBU on time is a necessary condition to maintain the accuracy and reliability of children’s biometric data. If MBU is not completed even after the age of 7 years, the Aadhaar number may be deactivated as per extant norms. A UIDAI official said that if the fingerprint and iris details are not updated in the Aadhaar cards of children, then the children may face problems in availing benefits of various Aadhaar-linked schemes.
Biometrics of children below 5 years of age are not taken
Actually, for Aadhaar enrolment of children below 5 years of age, their fingerprints and iris biometrics are not taken. Enrolment for Aadhaar is done only with the photograph, name, date of birth, gender, address and proof document of a child below 5 years of age. According to the statement, “According to the current rules, it is mandatory to update the fingerprints, iris and photograph in the Aadhaar details of the child when he/she is five years old. This is the first opportunity to update the biometrics mandatorily.”
Children get many facilities due to Aadhaar card
If the child gets the mandatory biometric update done between the age of 5 to 7 years, then it is free. But after the age of 7, a fee of Rs 100 is charged for updating the biometrics. UIDAI said that the Aadhaar card with updated biometrics makes the life of the child easier and ensures seamless use of Aadhaar in availing services like school admission, registration for entrance exams, scholarships etc.
