New rules related to UPI payments have come into effect from today. This will benefit the users. Quick refund will be given on wrong transactions. Let’s know what changes NPCI has made?

UPI Wrong Transactions Rules: Often consumers get tensed when UPI transaction fails or money is sent to the wrong place. They have to wait a long time for the refund. But now this will not happen. National Payments of Corporation has made a big change in the chargeback system related to Unified Payments Interface. New guidelines have also been issued. Due to which this process will be more organized and easier than before. The system will also be more responsible regarding the complaints made by the customers.

NPCI has allowed all banks to file “Good Faith Chargeback”. A circular related to this was issued in June 2025. The new rule is related to the genuine honest complaint of the customer, which has come into effect from July 15 i.e. today. With its help, users will get a refund in less time.

What has changed? (UPI New Rules)

A new system i.e. “Remitting Banking Raising Good Faith Negative Chargeback” has been implemented. Now if the bank feels that the customer’s complaint is correct, then they can file a chargeback themselves without the approval of NPCI. This will ensure that the customer’s request will not be rejected again and again. Complaints will also be settled faster. Dispute resolution will also improve. There will be immediate action on customer problems. Trust in digital payments will also increase.

What was the rule earlier?

Now if a bank repeatedly reports a problem for an account or UPI ID, the chargeback reject was stopped by citing “negative chargeback rate”. If the bank feels that the customer’s complaint is correct, then they had to send a manual whitelist request to NPCI. This process took a lot of time. Due to which customers were delayed in getting refunds.

Strict instructions also issued to banks

This rule applies to complaints related to matters like wrong transactions, failed transactions, merchant disputes. If RGNB is used to avoid penalty, then it will be considered a violation of the rules.
