Centre Selects 24 Part-Time NMC Members

New Delhi, Jul 16: The Union Health Ministry has selected 24 part-time members of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and its four autonomous boards by draw of lots.
Union Health Minister J P Nadda took part in the appointment process of part-time members of NMC, autonomous boards and the search committee on Tuesday.
According to the rules, 10 part-time members of the NMC are selected from the nominees of the state/ UT government in the Medical Advisory Council.
They were chosen from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Chandigarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Nine part-time members of NMC were selected from the nominee of State Medical Council in Medical Advisory Council (earlier appointed in 2022). They were from West Bengal, Karnataka, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
Dr Abhijat Sheth was appointed as chairperson of the Commission on Saturday.
It has been more than nine months since the positions of full-time members, including presidents of three out of the four autonomous boards of the NMC, have been vacant. (PTI)
