Kia Carens Clavis EV Is The Most Affordable Electric MPV But There Is More To It Than That

The Carens Clavis has been launched in India and prices start at Rs 17.99 lakh while the top-end is priced at Rs 24.49 lakh. This is the electric version of the Carens Clavis launched recently. Available with two battery pack options: 42kWh and 51.4 kWh, the Carens Clavis EV strikes a nice balance between price and range. Speaking of which the range is around 490km claimed for the larger battery pack. Range for the smaller one is around 404km.

Power comes courtesy of a 171hp motor and there are four regen levels too. Two AC charger options are there along with an 8 year warranty.

Exterior wise it gets Active aero flaps and the charging port is at the front. There are also new 17inch aero optimsed wheels for the car. The design also gets minor tweaks to differentiate it from the standard Carens Clavis. The features include V2L and V2V plus a new floating console while there is also a boss mode, powered drivers seat, panoramic sunroof, 12.3 inch screens, 8 speaker Boss audio system, level 2 Adas, connected car features and 6 airbags.

The Carens Clavis is an ICE to EV conversion but space on paper seems ample and the prices means that it undercuts the BYD eMax 7. Being the most affordable three row EV will certainly give it an edge but pricing, range and features have been kept competitive looking at the current EV space. Being the first mass market Kia EV, the Clavis should carve a niche to itself with no rival at this price.
